If you grew up with early arcade game consoles, or suffer at night with dreams of Pac-Man chasing you down a maze of corridors, this one’s for you…maybe. Atari, the electronic game pioneer is going into the hotel business with a series of videogame-themed hotels.
The company plans to open first in Phoenix, followed by Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and San Jose, but the plans are so far very fluid, with Phoenix groundbreaking scheduled for sometime this year and no completion date scheduled.
The developers say the theme will be “nostalgic and retro meets modern” and will offer “the ultimate in immersive entertainment and in every aspect of gaming,” with both classic Atari games such as Pong and Asteroids, alongside e-sports and virtual reality games.
With Nintendo’s old Osaka headquarters becoming a hotel, and Nintendo’s games opening as theme parks, is this a trend? Perhaps the next step is a cruise ship shaped like a Commodore 64.
