Brussels hotels will soon sport shiny new star ratings based on a new classification system developed in consultations with other countries, with patrons and with hoteliers.
It’s the first official system since 2011, when tourism issues were turned over from Belgium’s language communities to its regions, leaving Brussels without an officially adopted system. Since then, hotel owners have been free to assign themselves as many stars as they like, creating great confusion for travelers.
Brussels Minister-President Rudi Vervoort claims the new system as a win for all: “The stars of the hotels of Brussels will shine again. That’s good news for tourists, who will know immediately the level of service they can expect, but also for hotel managers, who will now be better able to position themselves on the market.”
