Boston will host Mayflower Sails 2020, a free six-day maritime festival May 14 to 19, featuring a sail-in to the harbor by two historic ships, the USS Constitution and Mayflower II, a replica of the original Pilgrim ship.
The event commemorates the historic 1620 voyage by the founders of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, and also celebrates completion of the renovation of the replica ship, which is owned by Plimoth Plantation, a living history museum at the location of the early settlement. The USS Constitution, one of the Navy’s earliest ships, has its permanent home at the Charlestown Navy Yard, where most of the events of Mayflower Sails will take place.
The festival’s events are free, but visitors who want to tour the Mayflower II will need to sign up for tickets in advance at MayflowerSails2020.com The site also has the link for a contest whose winner and a guest will be invited to be aboard the ship as it sails in.
