A Danish company is offering a spray-on coating that can be sprayed on walls, floors and ceilings, and is said to decompose microbes, including bacteria, viruses, mold spores and volatile organic compounds.
It may sound kind of Buck Rogers, but the product, Act Clean-Coat is already in use in a number of hotels and is being used on Lindblad Expeditions’ newest ship. Even before the current coronavirus outbreak, it was seen as a way to avert more common if less serious outbreaks of norovirus on cruises.
The coating’s is based on titanium dioxide, a nontoxic, naturally occurring compound often used in paints, sunscreen and toothpaste, among other products. Act Global, the supplier, says that the coating can be applied to almost any surface, and can be cleaned with another of the company’s products.
The company says it is seeing a big surge in demand since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak.
