A new mobility assistance device that looks like it came from a Disney movie is getting a tryout at Tokyo’s Narita International Airport helping passengers of All-Nippon Airways (ANA).
Like conventional wheelchair assistance, the device, called RakuRo Walk, gets diasbled passengers or others who have trouble with the long distances through the airport to their gates or other destinations; but without staff.
The multi-day trial of prototypes developed by a company called ZMP is part of an initiative from Japan’s New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) to boost startups and help apply innovative technology in daily life. It comes with a strangely affecting video.
