British regional carrier Flybe, rescued from bankruptcy by government action just two months ago shut down abruptly yesterday, citing loss of business due in part to the spreading coronavirus and traveler fears about it.
The airline, which accounted for about 40% of UK domestic flights also served a number of European cities, leaving passengers stranded there. Other airlines, including EasyJet and Ryanair have offered ‘rescue fares’ to get passengers back to the UK. Within the UK, the rail network has offered free passage home for holders of Flybe tickets.
