Qantas has a new safety video that may have set a record for length (8–1/2 minutes) but it’s certain to hold passenger attention, especially for any avgeeks on board.
The new video, which took over a year to put together from new filming, archive videos and old photos traces the airline’s history from its 1920s start with small biplanes and moves on into the present, with gorgeous interior and exterior shots, appropriately dressed flight crew and all the mandatory seat buckles, oxygen masks and the like blended in.
The avgeek bonus is the vintage planes and fittings, with additional material supplied by computer. Among the treats are Boeing seaplanes, a Lockheed Constellation and modern jets.
New Zealand has a new entry, too, with a storyline about a young girl trying to get a lost bird home to the right part of New Zealand with the help of Air New Zealand flight attendants. It may be just a bit too sweet for some, but worth a look.
