Nashville’s African-American Music Museum coming

The National Museum of African-American Music will open in Nashville on September 3 after years of planning and fund-raising. Tickets went on sale this week for the opening dates.

The museum aims to illustrate how African Americans have shaped or influenced nearly every musical genre, and to show how that influence unites all kinds of listeners. Galleries will be devoted to gospel, blues, jazz, R&B, hip-hop and more, in addition to rotating exhibits. There will also be a 200-seat theater for performances.

Part of the Fifth + Broadway development that also includes the Nashville Public Market and a variety of retail, office and residential spaces, the museum will open with 56,000 square feet of exhibit space.
