Glamping in the rain (what a feeling!)

A Japanese luxury campsite, Hoshnoua Fuji, that specializes in ‘glamping,’ luxury living in tents or cabins that defy anyone’s childhood memories of camping now has a plan to get its guests out in the rain.

June and early July have been low spots for the resort because it’s a rainy season, but the resort is now marketing it as a special period to enjoy while the rain makes the colors and aromas of the forest more vivid. The resort has also hung colorful ‘tipis’ in the trees, made of a cloth that changes color and creates a pattern when wet.

When guests venture out of their glamping cabins (full bath, air-conditioning, luxury appliances), they will have resort-provided ponchos, rain boots and guest bags; the bags are of the same materials as the tree hangings. There’s also a covered tea platform with afternoon refreshments while watching the rain.
