Elmira Railway Museum has a station masters office, artifacts, maps and photographs to share the history of the railway in Prime Edward Island.
The Museum has the PEI Miniature Railway. The 15 minute ride takes you through a covered bridge and a 100 foot long above ground tunnel.
Elmira also contains one of Atlantic Canada’s largest model train collection.
The Railway was very important to Prince Edward Island. The Island decided to go it alone and not be part of the Confederation when Canada was created in 1867. In 1871, the Island decided the to build a railway. By 1873, the Island was running out of money and decided to join Canada. Canada agreed to complete and run the Railway. Elmira was added in 1912.
Really an interesting museum. Even has items related to ferrys .Usually open in summer, but check schedule before you go.
