Belgium’s fine pastry and coffees are about to get some new competition: Dunkin’ Donuts is planning to open 15 stores, starting with one in Antwerp.
The donut chain thinks there’s a niche for their wares because of their extensive range of coffees, including lattes, cappuccinos, espressos and more; Belgium has one of the highest per capita coffee consumption rates in Europe. Whether American-style donuts will be as popular is another question. The company has picked a location on a main street between Antwerp’s train station and its main shopping street.
Dunkin’ has agbout 12,000 locations worldwide, most of them in the U.S. There are 240 in Europe, including 22 in the Netherlands; their goal is to double the Dutch stores.
