Dubai’s just gotten what America had for years (and still has a few of): a drive-in movie theater. Unlike the American originals that tended to be on the edge of town, Dubai’s is on the roof of a giant shopping mall.
Even with movie-goers limited to their cars, strict rules are in place: no one under twelve or over 60, two people per car. The price isn’t cheap, either: the equivalent of $76 per car, or $38 per ticket. But it does include popcorn and beverages. The screen is located on the roof, just under the peak of the mall’s indoor ski slope.
In the U.S., about 30 of the still-standing drive-ins are operating, although with cars spaced further apart and limited access to restrooms and refreshments, according to a recent CNBC report.
