Norwegian Air continues to struggle under a pile-up of problems, starting with underfunded overexpansion, followed by the 737 Max crisis and then Covid.
Even with new investors and a series of economy measures, the airline is taking new measures to cut costs and limit its fleet. It’s canceling a big order for Boeing planes that no longer fit its modest revival plans and which it can no longer afford.
The canceled order includes five more Boeing 787s, the plane it rode to initial success, and 92 737 Max planes. The airline is also suing Boeing over losses related to issues with Rolls Royce engines on the 787s as well as loss of use of the 737 Max. While the lawsuit is underway, the two companies are also negotiating.
