Kansas science museum reopens with Rube Goldberg machine

Wichita, Kansas’s Exploration Place, an interactive science museum, reopened Saturday with a big celebration, and a half-mile long madcap Rube Goldberg machine that circled through the museum’s exhibits.

For those of you too young to remember, Rube Goldberg was a leading cartoonist and, well, inventor of weirdly complex machines that were intentionally designed to perform a simple task in indirect, complex and funny ways. The video below shows the museum’s version.

Exploration Place offers visitors of all ages interactive environments, hands-on experiences, Kansas’ largest domed theater – the Digital Dome Theater and Planetarium – imaginative spaces, and outdoor recreation, all located on a 20-acre site along the scenic Arkansas River in downtown Wichita, Kan.

And for those who’d like to see more classic Rube Goldberg, try here.
