Delta is a couple of steps ahead of its competitors again in making it easier to change travel plans and to feel comfortable in the air by loosening change restrictions and automatically blocking the seat next to you unless you’re reserving that one for someone going with you.
The steps include the auto-blocking of seats to give some distance, extending its change-fee waiver to tickets booked through August 31 and extending the rebooking window for customers who bought flights before April 17 to two years instead of one. On the minus side, Delta has changed the refund window for delayed flights from 90 to 120 minutes, likely anticipating that under current conditions, there will be more delays.
A Delta VP, Dwight James, explained the changes, saying that “When booking their travel, customers tell us they value more space and greater flexibility during a time of physical distancing and heightened uncertainty. We want our customers to book and travel with the peace of mind in knowing their health and safety remains Delta’s top priority, and that we’ll continue evaluating our policies to maintain the high standard of care they expect.”
