Biodôme de Montréal comes back to life

Montreal’s Biodome, a sprawling exploration of biodiversity and how humans interact with it, is open again after two years of renovation and restoration that has many new exhibits, and most noticeably, natural light streaming through new glass in its roof.

It’s now possible to get closer to the animals, to get unusual new views, such as seeing the rain forest from treetop level and getting into a beaver lodge. Aside from the guides, there’s also an app to plan and guide self-exploration.

The building itself has a history; it was one of the most unusual buildings created for the 1976 Olympics, and was originally designed as a velodrome for bicycle races.
