Assiniboine Park is the main city park in Winnipeg and is a popular destination year round — but especially in the (all to few) warm summer months.
There are many interesting things to see and do in Assiniboine Park, including hiking and biking trails, a zoo, pavilion, cricket greens, steam train, duck pond, among others. Without question, one of the most popular stops is the park’s English Garden.
The gardens are nicely laid out, colorful and interesting, and well-manicured in the manner of an English Garden; it measures about 1.2 hectares (3 acres) and dates to the 1920s.
Within the English Garden you’ll find a wide variety of trees, shrubs, annual and perennial flowers.
(The Boy with a Boot)
As you stroll around the garden you’ll come across ponds and statues, most notably the “Boy with a Boot” which greets you at the English Garden’s entry.

There are pleasant wiinding paths for a leisurely stroll, and many benches on which you can relax and take in the smells of the garden and enjoy its birdsong.
We visited the park in mid-September, before the first frost had damaged the plants. So the blooms and garden were especially lovely to explore and photograph, as you can see from the photos below.
The English Garden is open daily from 9:00 am – 9:00 pm.
