Airbnb is cleaning up its act, or rather its users’ acts. In new guidance from the short-term rental platform, the company has set a deadline of Nov. 20 for all listings to comply with its ‘enhanced clean’ protocol or face sanctions, and is requiring that both guests and hosts wear masks when they meet.
The five-step cleaning protocol had been a recommendation since it was developed a few months ago; it will now be mandatory. The five steps are preparation for cleaning, removing dust and debris, sanitize with disinfectant, check frequently-touched surfaces and ‘reset’ the room.
The company says that listings that are marked as meeting the enhanced clean standard are renting at a rate three times that of those that aren’t, which marks it as a goo business decision as well as socially responsible.
