American moves the needle on Max

American Airlines is either very confident there will be no hitches in the FAA’s recertification plans for the 737 Max, or it’s gotten an itchy trigger finger. Either way, AA has become the first airline, worldwide, to put the plane back in its schedule.

American announced earlier this week that it will begin flying one flight a day between Miami and LaGuardia using a 737 Max, and will announce plans for more. The airline is already selling tickets on the flight, so we’ll soon know if there will be passenger reluctance to fly the plain that has been grounded for over 18 months because of crashes blamed on a control system.

Customers using the AA website to book will see, as usual, an indicator for which plane will be used on their flight. American has said that passengers who are automatically rebooked from flights using other planes won’t be rebooked to a Max without notification.
