Travelling has certainly changed over the past few months. When you’re packing for a journey these days, it’s not just about remembering your charger and headphones. You want to ensure you’ve packed all the essentials to keep you safe as possible on your trip.
Be Organised
Now this isn’t one you can pack in your bag, but it’s an important thing to keep in mind. The more organised you are in advance, the less stress you’ll face on the day. You can check your train times and pick a suitable route. It’s a good idea to travel off-peak as it will be a quieter time. You could also factor in extra time and pick a longer route which less people will be on. Even if it feels like a small step, if it makes you feel more comfortable then it’s worth doing.
Face Masks
Face masks are now mandatory on public transport in the UK. You should make sure you’re wearing it before and after you board. You need to have your mouth and nose covered, otherwise you’re not helping prevent the spread of the virus. No matter how long or short your journey is, you need to be wearing your mask. It’s important you remember that it’s not just about you, but protecting those around you.
Hand Sanitiser
Before you set off, and when you arrive at your destination, you need to wash your hands. It’s also been recommended that you carry hand sanitiser with you. On public transport there are a lot of surfaces that the general public touch, there’s not really a way of getting around that. However, you can reduce the risk for yourself by sanitising your hands during your journey. If you want to go the extra mile, you could bring your own disinfectant wipes to clean areas before touching them.
Food
You can make your journey a little bit safer for yourself by packing your own food. It saves you going into a shop or a cafe so you’ll limit your contact with people. Plus it can make life easier for yourself too. Remember that a lot of places are offering a limited service. You don’t want to reach your peak level of hunger, only to find they’ve closed early or don’t have anything you want.
Thermometer
Please note that if you’re showing any symptoms then you shouldn’t travel and self-isolate. However, if you want peace of mind a thermometer allows you to check your temperature. Not sure which one to get? There’s a guide for you right here.
Travelling during Covid 19 can be a scary time. However, if you take the right precautions you’ll feel a lot safer on your journey. How have you felt about travelling during this time?
