St Helen’s Church. Lancashire, England

Before being consecrated in the year 1170, this site was a Saxon burial ground. St Helen’s R.C. Church is now the oldest church in Lancashire.

Building began in 1171, when it was a private chapel for the Molyneux family. It was added to over the following 400 years as the local population grew. It contains many wooden carvings and is still used today.

It’s a centre of attraction for Ghost Hunters. They say nuns can be seen carrying a coffin through the church gates and then on to the church, where the nuns pass through a wall where a doorway once stood.

A lovely church and a great photo!

Curious if you’ve ever seen any ghosts here?

Nun of that, now…

The nuns I knew growing up weren’t ghosts and carried wooden sticks and rulers to smack your neck if they felt you were not paying attention or starting to doze off during mass.
