Brightline heads for Disney World

Florida’s Brightline high-speed rail service is upping its plans a notch with a deal to build a station at Walt Disney World’s Disney Springs hub which will let car-less travelers arrive at the parks directly from Miami, Orlando International and possibly Ft Lauderdale airport.

The new station, which will connect directly to Disney’s internal transport systems, is completing a 140-mile Miami to Orlando extension that’s due to open early in 2022, and which already has a station due to open at Orlando International Airport.

The initial Brightline route, connecting Miami to West Palm Beach, is currently not operating because of the pandemic, but three new south Florida stations are under construction, and the railroad has floated the idea of adding Ft Lauderdale Airport along the way. The company is also building a line from Las Vegas to California on the West Coast
