Memories of Bruges

Like everyone, I am longing to travel again. One of the positives of not continually exploring new places is I have time to re-examine where I’ve already been. Looking back at photos and remembering details I had all but forgotten has become a new pastime for me in these pandemic stay-at-home days.

Today I was looking through photos and came across Bruges, a fairy-tale medieval town. I visited when I was a guest of AmaWaterways on a cruise through the Netherlands and Belgium.

Bruges, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Europe’s best-preserved cities. My tour took me from the outskirts of town along cobbled lanes past lovely canals, and historic homes and businesses to the enchanting market squares in the heart of the city.

Ideally, visit for a couple days in the spring or fall when there aren’t as many tourists. I visited in May and had a lovely day in this charming city. I am grateful for the time I was able to explore on the guided tour as well as the chance to explore on my own. As so many of my favorite destinations, I would love to return and hope someday soon I will be able to.
