Fuji theme park adds new views

Fujiyama, meet Fujiyama Tower. The operators of the Fujiyama-Q Theme park near Japan’s beloved Fujiyama (Mount Fuji) are adding an observation deck and skywalk to the tower that’s part of the park’s giant roller coaster, also named Fujiyama.

The 79-metre-high roller coaster has been in operation since 1996, but the spectacular straight-on view of the mountain was reserved for coaster riders, and then only for a split second as the cars rounded the curve at the top of the track.

Starting next summer, those who don’t care for the thrill, or just want a longer ride, will have the option of riding up the central tower, formerly reserved for maintenance staff, and access an observation deck looking straight across to the mountain.

If that’s perhaps a little TOO tame, there are two other options. First, on the level just below the deck, there’s a no-walls walking track that circles the tower; each guest there is strapped into a harness, just in case. The next level of thrill after that is Fujiyama Slider, an enclosed sliding tube that circles the tower all the way to the bottom. If you’re up for that, you might as well ride the coaster!
