Last September I was in Pueblo for a LWMS rally and was able to spend an extra couple of days to explore the area. I learned that Pueblo is the Sister City to many cities across the world (more on that later). I was please to come across this amazing monument at the Sister Cities Plaza.
The monument is a concrete and tile sculpture replicating the seals of Pueblo, Colorado and Puebla, Mexico, topped by a steel eagle, with outstretched wings. There are also two large serpent heads extend on either side of the seals. I felt like it was a great way to cement the bond between Pueblo, CO and Puebla, Mexico. Sorry I couldn’t resist, lol Apparently the Sister Cities Plaza sculpture is approximately 7 x 8 x 6 feet tall and the base is approximately 6 ft. x 10 ft. x 7 ft. 3 in. Also to note, the monument was created by artist Jesus Corro Ferrer and was dedicated on August 25, 1973.

Also to note, Pueblo has other Sister Cities besides Puebla, Mexico. They are: Lucca Sicula, Sicily, Chihuahua, Mexico, Bergamo, Italy, Maribor, Slovenia, and Weifang, China. For those of you who don’t know Sister city organizations plan and implement cooperative activities and exchanges in cultural, educational, municipal/technical, business, and humanitarian fields. Thousands of inbound and outbound exchanges take place every year, as well as virtual exchanges and other remote, cooperative activities. I thought this was interesting and decided to share.
In some of the pictures you will also see a beautiful fountain. Couldn’t find much information on it, but it was interesting and is also located in the Sister Cities Plaza. If you make it to Pueblo, you definitely need to make it downtown and check out this little plaza. It’s not very far from the Riverwalk and the Visitor Information Center. They were very friendly and had maps of the area. I would suggest stopping in there before exploring the area.
