Silver Springs gets accessible boat

Florida’s Silver Springs, famed for its glass-bottomed boats that allow visitors to peer into the crystal clear waters will soon get its first wheelchair-accessible boat.

The famed boats have operated there since 1878, but in recent years more and more requests have come for access, especially since the state of Florida took over the attraction as part of Silver Springs State Park in the past decade.

The 37-foot boat, with 16 feet of viewing panels set in the floor, is nearing completion at a shipyard near Palatka, Florida.
