American Airlines has wiped out a lot of its service to Canada for the rest of this year, replacing with more flights to the Caribbean destinations that are attracting Americans while travel to Canada remains difficult and quarantined.
Three eastern cities—Ottawa, Quebec and Halifax—will disappear from AA’s network completely, at least through the end of the year. Halifax and Quebec are seasonal cities for the airline, with service operating from Chicago, Philadelphia and New York/LGA. Ottawa was a year-round city until last June, and was scheduled to resume this June from Philadelphia and New York.
The planes that would have flown those routes are mainly being reassigned to Miami, where they will be used to add daily frequencies to destinations such as St Thomas in the Virgin Islands and Port-au-Prince, Haiti. St Thomas service will continue into November this year, instead of ending in mid-August.
