If you’re looking for unique destinations that might not be too crowded (a good idea these days!) a UK online travel agency, Loveholidays, has done some of the research for you.
The company searched out Guinness record-holders in all sorts of categories using books from 2000, 2005, 2010 and 2015 to identify attractions that have fallen from their pedestals, but may still deserve a place on your bucket list.
For instance, how could you pass up Cedar Point and Six Flags Magic, both in Ohio, and each with sixteen roller coasters? Still a thrill, even though the record now belongs to Six Flags Magic in California, with 19.
Or Toronto’s CN Tower, named as one of the Seven Wonders of the Modern World at 1,815 feet in 1976, when it was the world’s tallest freestanding structure. It’s still a great view, and easier to get to for most people than the 2,722-foot Burj Khalifa in Dubai. Speaking of Dubai, it has now also claimed the world’s largest shopping mall, at 5.4 million square feet, just a tiny bit over the 5.3 million square feet of the West Edmonton Mall in Canada.
