At first glance, it seems perfectly reasonable that there should be a lighthouse along the shore at the Mystic Seaport Museum. And then you remember: this lighthouse is two mile up a quiet river from the nearest actual seashore.
But despite having no actual job, it is a working lighthouse; it has a working lighthouse lens on loan from the Coast Guard and is used for demonstrations. It is a 1966 copy of the Brant Point lighthouse on Nantucket.
For years, it was just part of Mystic’s “shore furniture” and wasn’t open to visitors, but now houses an exhibit on…you guessed it…lighthouses.
