Australians get OK for NZ flights

Australia, which has largely banned overseas travel for its residents throughout the pandemic, has given the go-ahead for travel to New Zealand without having to apply for an exemption to the ban.

The new rule is open to anyone who has been in Australia for at least 14 days, but it’s not a complete go: at this point, Australian travelers will still be required to quarantine in New Zealand for two weeks on arrival.

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has set April 6 as the date she will announce the date when quarantine-free travel between the two countries can begin, implementing the so-called ‘Trans-Tasman Bubble.”

Australia has also been working on a mutual bubble arrangement with Singapore.
