Occasionally there’s a story about people who go on vacation, leaving pets behind with bad consequences, but in this case the owner and his whereabouts are unknown and the animals, if pets, are unusual ones.
Police in Tournai, Belgium, have temporary custody of two camels and a dromedary. They’ve had custody for longer than expected, because when the animals were reported and rounded up last Saturday night, they got no answer when they tried to contact the RSPCA and a nearby animal park. Instead, they herded the animals into a meadow, with permission of the farmer.
The original report to police complained that the animals were running around on the Lille road near the town; the Brussels Times report indicates that there is a possibility the animals may have wandered across the nearby border from France. So far, no clues to the owner; eventually the animals may be sent to an animal park nearby.
