After leading the Israelites to the Promised Land, Moses climbed Mount Nebo and lived there the remainder of his days according to the Bible. He was allowed to see the Promised Land but never enter it.
Some scholars believe he may also have been buried here.

Mount Nebo offers an amazing panoramic view over areas of the Dead Sea, the West Bank, the Jordan River, and, on a clear day, Jerusalem.
Christians began making pilgrimages to the site in the 4th century. A church and a monastery built by Byzantine monks once stood there, but by the 16th century, the monks left the site and the buildings fell into ruin. Fortunately, the elaborate floor mosaics were preserved, and a Franciscan monastery was built over them in 1993. You can view the mosaics from a raised platform.
Jordan is a remarkable country with many historic sites. If you ever have the opportunity to visit, do so.
