That’s the estimate for this year’s revival of an annual gathering of twins, triplets and more in (naturally) Twinsburg, Ohio. The annual event, which skipped last year, started in 1976 and is in the Guinness Book as the largest ever gathering of twins.
If you’re expecting a lot of twin-based puns, you won’t be disappointed; this year’s theme is “The Roaring TWINties,” with participants urged to dress up in styles from the flapper era. Decor and events will also follow the theme. Activities include twin talent shows, twin research projects, twin group photos. The events kick off with a ‘Double Take’ parade.
The whole idea started with Twinsburg’s committee for the 1976 U.S. Bicentennial; the twins’ celebration was just one of many themed weekends during the celebration, but it’s the one that became permanent. Ironically, when it was originally proposed, the City Council turned it down as a bad idea!
