Rotterdam moves a bridge

Sometimes a traveling moment is when it is, and possibly never again, but in Rotterdam’s case one of the most amazing sights—moving a 200-meter-long bridge through the city will have to be repeated when its temporary job is over.

The bridge took five days to be moved through the city’s waterways and harbor to a new location next to the existing Suurhoff Bridge, which is undergoing heavy-duty renovations. The bridge was moved on pontoons pulled by tugboats. If you have the time, here’s the livestream, which is fascinating but hours long.

The original bridge, which connects industrial areas of the city to the Europort area, will be back in service by the end of the summer, so stay tuned for announcements about its next voyage.
