Blundell Sands, Liverpool, UK

This home was built in the 1700’s by a wealthy timber merchant. It’s eight miles north of the city. A long daily commute even 300 years ago! It’s in a beautiful area and 200 feet from the beach, where this photo was taken from.

It’s written in diaries that the merchant kept his horses in the stables behind the house. So each morning he saddled up and rode to the beach. His journey took him along 8 miles of golden sand with no crossings all the way. And he arrived in the city centre in half an hour. That’s even faster than today with a journey by car. It remains an expensive suburb of Liverpool today with detached homes costing millions—like this one with two Bentleys in the driveway.
