The Sherman Library and Gardens in Corona del Mar, California is an amazing feat of landscape and design; once inside, you’re barely aware that it’s really a vest-pocket Garden, sharing a bare 2.2 acres with its library and restaurant buildings.
For a deep sense of how well it does that, see these TravelGumbo blogs by DrFumblefinger.
For now, though, just join me over by the koi pond. If the highlight of the Gardens is the amazing range of color of its plants, the highlight of the koi pond is shimmer: the moving water, the moving fish, the fleeting changes.
My big surprise, though, was not the image but the knowledge: I had no idea that they live 15 to 20 years and some have made it to 200!
Sharing the pond, but barely moving: the turtles.
