Copenhagen to get new barrier island

Denmark’s parliament has given final approval to a fifty-year project to build a new one-square-mile island at the entrance of Copenhagen’s harbor with the intent of both providing new housing and, primarily, protecting the harbor from future storm surges. To be called Lynetteholm, the bulk of the island’s foundation is to be in place by 2035, with completion by 2070.
