Waterford: Time for a new Museum

The Museum of Time is open In Ireland’s oldest city, Waterford, with what is claimed to be the country’s finest collection of watches, stopwatches, clocks and other time-measuring devices.

Housed in a 1880s neo-Gothic former Methodist church, the museum is built around collections donated by three benefactors, who donated over 600 items spread out over three floors, including pieces from the U.S., UK, France, Austria, Switzerland, France, Japan, Russia and more. Not to mention some of Ireland’s most significant and oldest timepieces.

It is Waterford’s fifth museum, part of a campaign to increase the city’s staycation appeal as well as attracting outside visitors. Heritage Minister Malcolm Noonan, at the opening, said that “This wonderful new museum celebrates the work of craftsmen at the forefront of technology from all over the island of Ireland over the last 300 years.”
