Sometimes news moves so fast it’s out-of-date before it’s news!
Shortly after the story below was written, Frontier caved to public outrage (or found its conscience mixed in with the last bags) and cancelled the planned fee.

Frontier Airlines, long known for its aggressive fees on top of low fares, has come up with another assessment on passengers, a “Covid Recovery Charge” of $1.59 added to each flight segment, per passenger.
The airline says the fee is to offset costs for increased sanitation and cleaning of its planes, shields at the ticket counter and PPE for employees. Frontier is the only airline—at least so far—to impose such a fee.
At the same time, last week, the airline also dropped its practice of taking passenger temperatures as they boarded the flight; other airlines dropped the practice months ago after CDC determined it was not an effective means of preventing the spread of infection.
Who knows? If they had kept the temperature routine, the new fee might have risen to, perhaps, $1.63? $3.59? What will the market bear?
