New London sight called ‘unsightly’

A temporary attraction near London’s Marble Arch that was supposed to provide stunning views over London and revive tourism in the city has opened, and quickly closed under a storm of complaints that it is unfinished and unsightly.

The complaints were loud enough that the London Borough of Westminster, which paid for the £2 million pound project, agreed to refund the £8 admission fee that was being charged. Nonetheless, they said, it would create a “new and meaningful experience” despite the fact that “elements” of the project were “not ready.”

Critics were less kind, calling it a “monstrosity” while another said it was “an expensive exercise in pointlessness.” Some complained that the funds could have been better spent on pandemic relief. Others mocked it as resembling scenery from a Mario videogame.

And one wit, noting the difference seen above between the plans and the reality (above) commented that “Sure, the Marble Arch Mound doesn’t look like the designs but that seems like a weird hill to die on.”
