There’s a Tiktok out there, ruefully posted by a Croatian woman who showed up early at Zadar Airport at 6 am last week for her flight to Milan. 365 days early, it turns out.
Most airlines only sell tickets 330 to 350 days in advance, but apparently EasyJet is not one of them; it currently has flights listed and bookable as far away as October 2022.
She hadn’t received any of the usual emails reminding passengers to check in, but thought that wasn’t a problem since she had used her father’s email and assumed he had gotten them.
And then she thought she had checked in on the airline’s website…but it turns out that she had (as she intended) paid for checked baggage, but didn’t realize that the receipt she got for that was not a boarding pass.
She eventually got to Milan, and perhaps fortunately for her, her name has not widely been circulated along with her Tiktok.
It’s not too difficult to imagine how people might overlook the year in their quest for a low price flight option. I bet she thought she had a bargain! After that you are probably on ‘autopilot’ – the horrible thought of possibly having booked for the wrong year not even occurring to you.
I’m sure you’re probably right, especially if, like most of us, you assume the airline is not selling further out that 330 days!
Even experienced travelers (I’m pointing at me) can make mistakes; earlier this month I was in Seattle, due to arrive back in New York on August 7, early in the morning. Fortunately I realized before it was too late that arriving early on the 7th meant I was flying on the 6th…
