The U.S. federal mandate that requires all passengers and personnel on trains, planes and buses and in airports and stations to wear masks has been extended to January 18, 2022. It had been set to expire on September 13.
The statement from the Centers for Disease Control said that “The emerging evidence about the Delta variant demonstrates it is more formidable than the original virus. Wearing a well-fitting mask that covers your nose and mouth is a way to prevent germs from spreading between yourself and other people.”
The extension comes at a time when many states and cities are extending or re-imposing mask and distancing rules because of the spread of the delta variant. Several news polls in the past few days indicate around 70% or more support for such measures.
