Rocky Mountaineer starts first U.S. route

Canada’s Rocky Mountaineer luxury excursion train company has launched its first U.S. route, linking Denver, Colorado with Moab Utah, with an overnight stop in between at Glenwood Springs, Colorado.

The two-day trip, labeled “Rockies to the Red Rocks” follows the Colorado River on the first day, through canyons with steep rock walls. The second day features mountain vistas, desert cliffs and rock formations. Meals are served onboard at passengers’ seats; unlike some of its Canadian routes this one does not carry a dining car.

Rocky Mountaineer operates a number of routes in western Canada, but most notably a two day route linking Vancouver on the coast with Banff in the Rockies.
