Until a few years ago, my wife Diane and I would spend the month of January in an oceanfront condo at Saint Augustine Beach, Florida. On a few occasions when the day was sunny and the winds calm, we would sit out on the St. Augustine Beach Pier also known officially as the St. Johns County Ocean Pier. We would talk to the fishermen on the pier and watch them toss the small catches to the waiting pelicans and other birds patiently waiting for an effortless meal. Also, one day a week the local farmer’s produce market was held in the pier’s parking lot area where lots of colorful, fresh produce was purchased to cook at our condo.
The cost is $2 a day to be on the pier and a slightly higher charge of $6 for fishermen. The pier area also has beach volleyball and bocce courts. The pier is located at 350 A1A Beach Boulevard., St. Augustine Beach, Florida 32080.
