Spanish teens turning 18 next year will get a double-purpose birthday gift from the government, a €400 culture pass to spend on books, concerts, movie or theatre tickets, the Prime Minister announced last week.
He told an EU summit meeting that it would both improve young people’s access to culture, especially after a period of isolation, and would also help bolster Spain’s culture industry, which has suffered losses during the lockdowns.
Italy and France have issued similar passes in the past, ranging from €300 to €500 per person. Spain is also planning a €250 a month rent support for 18 to 35 year-olds to help them establish or maintain households of their own.
