Pike Place Pigs, Seattle

Rachel, above, and Billie are prominent features of the Pike Place Market in Seattle. Both are piggy banks, and help raise funds for social service agencies that operate in the market.

Rachel is older, installed in 1986, the work of Georgia Gerber, and modeled after a real Rachel, a county-fair-prize-winning pig belonging to a neighbor. In 2011, Rachel was the victim of a traffic accident, hit by an out-of-control cab.

When the sculptor returned her after repairs, Billie came with her and was installed at an opposite corner of the market.
