Alshek Lake is one of the most remote places I’ve ever been to. It’s situated in south-eastern Alaska and can only be reached by boat or sea-plane (although given all the icebergs in the lake, most pilots wouldn’t risk landing here).
The lake was our next to last stop in a week-long rafting trip in the region. We spent two days camping here, one of which was extremely wet, the other cool but lovely.
I’m fond of this photo because it encompasses the journey. Our rafts in the foreground, a giant iceberg calved off the Alshek glacier in the background, and the amazing mountains of Alaska in the distance.
