New ferry line links Norway, Holland

Air travel, followed by trains get most of the publicity, but European ferry services have been growing over the past several years, and another route is about to be launched by a new company, linking the Netherlands with Norway.

The service by Holland Norway Lines will start next April, linking Eemshaven with Kristiansand, Norway. The route will be served by the ferry MS Romantika, which has accommodations for 2,500 passengers plus vehicle and cargo. Many  of the routes added in recent years have been driven by cargo needs as much as by passenger travel.

The 18-hour trip is an overnight run, leaving Eemshaven at 3 pm on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, allowing passengers to arrive at 9 am, ready for work or pleasure. The return trip from Kristiansand follows the same schedule on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
