Auburn, California History

The history of Auburn California started from two key events, the Gold Rush of 1849 and the completion of the transcontinental railroad. Auburn commemorates both in two statues at opposite ends of town. In Old Town, there is a statue of Cluade Chana, one of the first European settlers and miners.

At the other end of the downtown area is a statue dedicated to the memory of the Chinese workers who toiled, doing the heavy work in creating a path for the railroad.
