The Art of Camouflage

Our visit to Costa Rica’s Pacific coast was limited to the region around Manuel Antonio National Park.  We did a walking tour of the park, which is rather small, and our sharp-eyed guide spotted the best camouflaged bird I’ve ever seen.  It was sitting quietly in the litter of the jungle floor and blended in perfectly.  Even knowing where it was supposed to be, it took me some time to actually spot it.  In case you’re having trouble seeing it, I’ve outlined it in the photo below.

Hi Doc ! I had exactly the same experience of the invisible bird in Keoladeo NP Bharatpur India. This is a nightjar, and I feel sure it could be a cousin !
